Episode #124 – Perfect Ways to Deal with A Selfish Person
Let’s face it, a selfish person shouldn’t be too hard to find. That’s because, to a certain degree, we are all selfish beings. If you’re not full enough, many will fill you up with what they want. That’s why it’s important that you stand up for yourself so that you’re well protected.
The good news is, with a bit of self-love and self-worth, we can alter how we receive others around us. That’s right, a selfish person can only get out of us what we are willing to give. Therefore, if we’re well-guarded, there is no room to infiltrate.
I guess the real question is, how do people operate selfishly at the expense of others? I’m sure many of us find it hard to show up for those we feel care very little about us. Perhaps they show very clearly that their needs trump yours. That’s tough because it creates a disconnect within any relationship.
We all want to know that the one we tend to stand with, will stand with us. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. It can be a bit hectic, but once you come to understand how to deal with a selfish person, you’ll never have to look outside of yourself again.
How do Deal with A Selfish Person: 4 Ways
I know it isn’t easy dealing with the many different people we come across in the world. That’s the beauty in living, so that we learn, live, and grow past where we once were.
1. Don’t Take Things to Heart
When dealing with a selfish person, one thing to understand is that it’s not always easy to help them understand things. Many times they find it hard to see past the lens they wear. As far as their concerned, they are the only one that matters in their universe, therefore leaving little to no room for you.
Why waste another minute of the day with someone unwilling to cooperate? Knowing that they will most likely be on their own side, giving them any attention seems useless. That’s why it’s important that we take everything with a grain of salt. No need to allow anyone access over your life by giving them the keys.
2. Spend Time With Quality People
If you have any friends that are selfish, how do you manage? I mean, how do you deal with a selfish person anywhere? Actually, it’s quite more simple than we realize it is. Spend time with quality people. Once you make that choice to filter whom you spend your time with, problem solved.
Once again, it isn’t easy dealing with a selfish person, but it gets easier without. Too many times do we hold on to energy that doesn’t serve us. The moment you start to become aware of the different energies that exist and how they affect you, it becomes clear. So if someone isn’t serving or adding value to your life or someone else, there’s a great chance your life is better off without them.
It’s not that you shut the door on them altogether. It’s just that you’re leaving them a voucher to reenter at a later date when things align. Until then, just move on.
3. Set Your Boundaries
A house without walls is vulnerable to any form of weather. For one thing, we don’t know what is going on on the other side of the world. That’s because we are divided by imaginary boundaries. With these boundaries in place, we are protected. Therefore, we get to choose who we let in or not. That means you’ll have all the right in the world to keep selfish people out.
You will have no need to think of dealing with a selfish person if your boundaries are well set. Because your boundaries will do a lot of talking without a word. At the end of the day, your mental health should always be a priority, especially when it comes to the ones we surround ourselves with.
4. Sometimes You Have to Walk
And sometimes when it is all said and done, walking away becomes your best option. We all grow when we allow ourselves the opportunity to do so. If you find yourself in the presence of a selfish person, know that that person has yet to experience something greater than themselves.
That is because, in life, one cannot live off bread and water alone. There are things that fuel the body, mind, and soul far more than any meal. What the mind feeds, you will, in turn, produce. So be aware of the ones you keep close. They just may be taking away far more than you could ever retrieve. So allow yourself to be fed more, rather than less.
