Episode #141 – Reclaim Your Life from Distraction | Ask How
When you think about it, we all need to reclaim our lives from constant distractions. Study proves that we tend to get interrupted at least four times in an hour. The challenge with that is, we take so much time to get focused, only to get thrown off track.
Let’s be honest, we all find ourselves working on things that leave us a bit unexcited. Can you imagine finally getting things going and being distracted from it all? I know the feeling so well. If you’re like me, being at your desk for a while can drive you up a wall. That is why doing things that avoid distractions makes the experience a whole lot different.
At the end of the day, you either struggle to get back in the swing of things or just end up dropping it altogether. I don’t want that for you. So here are a few tips that will have you well on your way.
Slow Things Down a Bit from Distractions
Building momentum is such an amazing process. That’s because once you get going, it’s really hard to fall off track. Maybe part of that is due to the pause we sometimes need to take before proceeding forward. With all of the constant distractions, we experience on a daily basis, sometimes all we need to do is STOP. Take a moment, step away, and revisit it all over again.
Remember to set aside some time to breathe. Too many times do we focus on constant movement only to miss out on moments of stillness, moments that remind us all of the breath. Sometimes standing still is what you need in order to regain traction to start moving again.
Allow Yourself Space to Shine
Whatever walk of life you find yourself in, who are presenting to the world? Who are you really? Too often we fail to show up as the light that we are. We forget that greatness is more our friends than it is our enemy.
The best thing we can do is avoid distractions that take us further away from our light and closer to darkness. Fear, not the greatness you hold. Fear your inability to bring it to the world. At the end of the day, the world relies on it.
Avoid Distractions from Things You Want
Do you know what you want? If you do, good. If not, you’re still in the clear. That’s because sometimes all we need to do is explore. And sometimes the things we like, we don’t know of. So explore, explore, and explore some more. There are so many things I didn’t allow myself to experience because I myself didn’t understand it. Why? Well, because I never gave it a chance.
When you give life a chance, life presents you with an experience of a lifetime. Remember, our lives our made up of experiences. Therefore, any experienced missed is a lesson lost. Be not afraid to fail, because too many times does failure drive us into the success we desire.
Fear Not Saying NO
We all want to be nice. That’s because we all want to be liked to a certain extent. With that we find ourselves doing things, not because we want to, but because we want to be accepted. That in itself can be a bit of a distraction. So the more you say yes to them, you just may be saying no to yourself. We don’t want that, and neither do you.
Within each day you’ll find an opportunity for growth. Saying no was a huge learning curve for me. That’s because I grew up having no choice but to say yes. Not only did I feel controlled, but I also felt unhappy in the process. My greatest joy came when I allowed myself the freedom to do and live on my terms. And sometimes your choosing you first may not always sit with others well.
