Episode #47 – Best Ways to Keep Your Brain Young and Healthy
We all want to be young and healthy, and we all want to live a long life. It’s only right because life is the most beautiful gift known to mankind. Therefore, in order to sustain it, it is important that we take our health seriously.
I’m not sure about you, but I value this life I live. The most beautiful thing about it all is that regardless of how things are, it can be made right. One of the best things we have to advance in this world is our mind, a healthy one. Therefore, it is imperative that you find different ways to enhance your brain. Just like any car, your brain is the engine to your body. Without it, how can you function?
We live in a world where we experience all types of challenges. In order to cope, many turn to substances that they believe will alleviate their stresses. One thing is for sure, there are no studies connecting them to any sort of brain development. Therefore, there is no way that they’ll be contributing to you staying young and healthy.
In order to help keep the mind sharp and healthy, there are many things one can do. After all, a sharp mind makes a sharp soul. There’s a quote by Frank McCourt that reads, “You might be poor, your shoes might be broken, but your mind is a palace.” For this very reason, it is important that you protect it. In order to do so, there are a few things you can do in making it all happen.
Keeping healthy should never be a task. It should always be a way of life. It’s a way to show appreciation for this life you’ve been blessed with. So take care of it. It’s like a plant that needs constant watering and you are the caregiver. I’ll share with you a few tips for a healthy mind.
Keep Busy
If you’ve done your usual checkups, one thing the doctor always orders is exercise for it contributes to better health. In addition, evidence shows that it not only contributes to a healthier heart and lungs, it also contributes to enhanced brain performance. In other words, it plays a vital role in your brain development.
To improve brain functions that allow us to perform our daily tasks, exercising is essential. It plays a major role in keeping us young and healthy. While many may think of working out as being intense, a simple walk for about 2 to 3 days a week can do wonders. It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than it needs to be. Some studies even prove that Alzheimer’s patients in their early stages who workout more have less brain atrophy than those who don’t.
Ignite Your Social Life for a Healthy Life
How do you live in a world without mixing and mingling? In other words, what’s a world without other people to share it with? It has recently been proven that there is a link between our socializing and our brains.
Valerie Crooks, a researcher out of Kaiser Permanente, was able to assess 2,200 women back in 2007 over four years. The intent was to look for mental declination while studying their level of social connectivity. The study that she worked on showed that women with more of a social life had a lower risk of dementia. Therefore, they all had a higher chance of living a healthier life. And that was factoring in age and hormonal use.
To those keeping to themselves, get out. See what’s out there for you. Enjoy not only your presence but that of others as well. We all need each other at the end of the day. It not only leads to a healthy life, but the opportunity presents itself for you to enhance your brain as well.
Keep the Brain Stimulated
Another way to keep the brain young and healthy is by keeping it stimulated. Studies show that there are a lot of exercises online designed to better improve brain functions. These exercises help boost memory, processing of information, and problem-solving among other things. In other studies, proven training in one area translated to improvements unrelated to the training. It comes to show that training benefits may correlate to additional brain development.
With that being said, be conscious as to what you entertain your mind with. Just like food, what you expose your mind to can affect your brain in both a negative and positive way. Therefore, the best way to enhance your brain is by being mindful of what you expose it to. If you challenge it to stretch, it will do more than you could ever imagine. If you expose it to things that are mediocre, then no added value could there be.
On my journey of growth, I not only had to pay attention to what my output was, but also, what I allowed in. I had to be mindful of the things or people I was exposed to. There was a shift that needed to take place so that assured the growth I wanted to attain. Not only was I more aware of the movies I watched and the books I read, but I was also concerned with the people I allowed in my presence.
