Episode #81 – Effective Ways to Simplify Your Life
When you simplify your life, you allow more room for laughter and freedom. If we take a moment to ourselves, we will find that our problems come from our own complications. They become a mere distraction to the life we all yearn for.
Simplicity is the essence of happiness – Cedric Bledsoe
I was set free. I promise you, by simplifying your life, you too, will feel free. We are all carrying weight, dead or alive. The question is, of the weight we are carrying, how many of it truly serve us? In other words, how many of it truly add the value our lives need.
The answer to this question will help us determine what is more important in our lives.
Simplify Your Life by Letting Go
I don’t know about you, but being born in a non-American culture, I carry beliefs and standards many can’t relate to. Therefore, I was carrying thoughts, ideas, and a way of living I didn’t quite understand. And although I didn’t understand, I was still living by that standard as that was all I knew.
We are all on our own personal journey. And while some of us looking to attain things, some of us would do better to let go. Owning more doesn’t always mean you actually have more. For what good is what you have if it isn’t serving you the way you want?
When you simplify your life you will come to realize just how much more you have. While some think giving up equates to losing, I beg to differ. Ever carried a load so heavy that upon offloading you felt relieved? I’m sure you do. At the end of the day, many of us continue to deal with this very load to this day.
What You Own
One of the best ways to simplify your life is by simply letting go of what you own. Sometimes we confuse having a lot with wealth. But the reality is the number of things we may have may be preventing what we need.
I realized that the more I have, the more I have to worry about. On the other hand, the less I have the more free I tend to feel. Try it and see the feelin it brings. Whether it be the number of possessions we have can eventually complicate our lives.
They can be draining and take up more of our time than necessary. After moving around for the past 5 years, I came to feel the freedom of having less. The more I traveled, the more I need to haul with me. But the more weight I was shedding, the more freedom to move I felt.
So whatever it is you are holding on to, let it go. What you own isn’t you and what you don’t have only frees you to what you can become. With every move I made, the more I got rid of possessions. I came from having clothes for every occasion to only holding on to occasions I attended.
Commit to Time Wisely
How many times do we commit to things we know we have no interest in? Too many times do we make decisions based on how others feel, instead of how we feel. Whether we aim to be useful, or simply afraid to say the big NO, we must commit wisely.
I remember always saying yes while complaining, on the inside. I came to realize how disconnected I was and decided to let go. Simplify yourself and know that part of saying know is being free. The first time I said NO, there was a sense of freedom I felt. It made me feel empowered knowing that when someone asked me a question, I could answer it truthfully.
Simplify Living by Changing Your Thoughts
Anything on your mind that doesn’t serve you need not reside within. As a matter of fact, these negative emotions do us no good at all. It is important that we embrace what’s in front of us while being mindful of what we store in our minds.
As I continuously say, what you keep on your mind is what you eventually become. We are our thoughts and we see them through our actions. So if we seek improvements, be mindful as to what you keep on your mind. Because, whether you know it or not, you are already becoming…
