Thoughts 21: Stay True to Yourself
No matter what this life serves you, always stay true to yourself. Life will test you in more ways than you could ever imagine, but never forget who you are or where you’re going. This will be key in fueling you to getting you where you want to go.
You are responsible for the life you chose to live. And only you have the ability to ensure that that mission is realized. How does life look to you? When I speak of life I speak of real life, true living. Is it dictated by your own vision or is it governed by that of society? When you stay true to yourself, you open the doors to all the opportunities you deserve.
The sad thing is that we fail to be authentic to ourselves due to an image, an idea. And sometimes we fail to be true to ourselves because we fear that we may lose something. But I’m here to tell you, nothing is worth negotiating our dreams and goals over. Absolutely nothing. Because when we hold on to these things we do nothing but stunt the actual progress of our existence. At the end of the day, whatever moves us or fills us up is what breathes true life within us all.
Stay True to Your Commitment
I’ve always had a dream, a vision to create a life of joy for myself. I always wanted to be able to live the life that I was created to live. In other words, I wanted to be able to experience the freedom my childhood allowed me to experience. We’ve all experienced it before because we all were once young. Be authentic to that version of you because that is the person that taught you what living was all about.
What does it mean to you to stay true to yourself? For me, it’s not losing that fire, the urge and will to truly live. It was all good until I was told that growing up meant leaving all of that behind. It meant that I would have to throw my imagination away in exchange for a systematic way of living. A way that only took my freedom away, but also my ability to be authentic in the process.
I had to constantly remind myself that I could not let this fear that I was being fed prevent me from setting myself free. Fortunately, I signed a contract with myself that meant that I was going to remain happy at all cost. It meant that no matter what I was given if it didn’t align with that happiness, I would have to walk away from it.
To Live is to Be Authentic to YOu
What I came to realize is that fear was my enemy. Because while many say fear keeps you safe, it was the very safety that I was afraid of. It was that very safety that would prevent me from taking all the risks that I imagined would bring me all the things I have been looking for. If there is one thing I have learned is that we may not always know how nor can we predict the outcome of our mission. But, sometimes it’s by stepping into the unknown are you able to find something greater than you’ve ever known. If you don’t look, how can you ever find? And if you don’t take the necessary chances how will you ever know the outcome.
I always stay true to myself because, when it’s all said and done, when I look in the mirror I want to know that I stayed committed to my commitments. In other words, I want to know that I kept the promises that I maid that my imaginations once counted as true. I wanted to know that I believe in my dreams and that they were real to me. Because I knew if they were always real to me, it would be a lot easier for me to work towards them. I knew that it would give me the best chance of living towards its existence.
Have Faith in Your Abilities
When it’s all said and done, when we aim to be authentic, we present far more value than we could ever imagine. We are able to present something the world has yet to experience. And when we are able to bring something different and unique, the value that we have increases. At the end of the day, if you don’t believe in yourself, it makes no sense that someone else should. Therefore, if you don’t lead how can you expect them to follow? Think about it.
